Don’t miss the 3 Borromean Islands: Isola Madre, Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori.
ISOLA BELLA
You can visit the castle we call the "little Versailles" and its beautiful and well-kept gardens either independently or with guided tours.
Count Charles III Borromeo gave the island the name of his wife, Isabella d'Adda, hence Isola Bella. The construction of the palace began in 1632 and in 1797 Napoleon Bonaparte was among his guests.
ISOLA MADRE
The Borromeo family from 1502 began the transformation of the island which lasted until the mid-19th century. In addition to the palazzo, with its unique garden, you can see the greenhouses and the chapel of the Borromeo family.
The style of the palace is elegantly simple: a series of loggias and rooms decorated with tapestries, furniture and paintings from various historical residences owned by the Borromeo family in Lombardy.
The current English botanical park, created at the beginning of the 19th century, has since then been home to plants and flowers brought from distant journeys and acclimatized thanks to the mild and pleasant temperatures.
ISOLA PESCATORI
The Isola dei Pescatori, also known as Isola Superiore , is the only one of the Borromee archipelago in Lake Maggiore to be permanently inhabited, with 19 inhabitants who live from fishing and tourism.
Inhabited for at least 700 years, it hosts a small village, with characteristic houses, with long balconies to dry fish, characteristic narrow alleys, with many local handicraft shops, the lakefront and a parish dedicated to San Vittore.
The three Borromean islands can be visited during the day by boat departing from Stresa which is only 18 km (20 minutes by car or bus) from our hotel. You can also take the boat from Arona.
Arona is about 5 km. from the hotel Villa Paradiso is a famous town on the lake full of historical squares, medieval buildings and churches. It was awarded the prestigious Orange Flag, fully entered the circuit of the Italian Touring Club.
Also ideal for shopping, restaurants and clubs for young people.
Today it is one of the main centers on Lake Maggiore, thanks to its historic center full of attractions.
One of the symbols of Arona is a magnificent statue of St. Charles Borromeo, 20 meters high and with a base of 11 meters.
Near Arona is also the Natural Park of Lagoni di Mercurago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On the other side of the lake, on the Lombard shore, in front of Arona, stands out the Rocca d'Angera:
The fortress, whose defensive structure dates back to Roman and Lombard times, does not retain any real signs of that era. Its walls date back to the 12th and 13th centuries in the oldest parts. The historical tradition links the events of Angera to the family of the Visconti. In 1449 the Borromeo family bought the fortress for 12,800 imperial liras. From the end of 1600 it was extensively restored.
In recent years, the Rocca di Angera has been the subject of a careful restoration commissioned by Princess Bona Borromeo, who wanted to restore the castle to its former splendour and give visitors its refined collections, giving life to the Museum of the Doll and the Toy, the largest in Europe.
Lake Maggiore is therefore an area full of possibilities and beauties, all to experience.
SPORT
The area of Lake Maggiore is also ideal for lovers of various sports, including trekking, mountain-biking, golf, and horse riding thanks to the marvelous surroundings and verdant hills around the lake.
